GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs a variety of moderate to heavy unskilled diversified tasks related to the general maintenance of streets, sidewalks, parks, cemeteries, public grounds, and facilities. Is responsible to the crew leader, foreman, or other authorized personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Will periodically be assigned to some of the following tasks depending upon the workload and coverage needed. Cleans gutters and sweeps sidewalks and streets. Cleans and maintains catch basins, traps, and pipelines. Shovels, piles, loads, unloads, and spreads concrete, sand, stone, debris, snow and ice. Clears snow and ice from, and sands walks and steps of public buildings. Rides as the driver assistant for oiling, plowing, and sanding operations. Performs minor bituminous patching and paving. Washes cars and trucks. Sweeps garage, shop or public buildings. Handles trash and refuse. Waters lawns and plants. Cuts grass by hand or with power equipment including, but not limited to, mower, weed whacker, blower, and chain saws. Trims shrubs and small trees by hand or with power equipment. Acts as grounds man on tree work. Weeds, rakes, spades and helps lay out gardens, lawns, courts, and fields. May dig graves or ditches for storm drains. Removes leaves from streets and sidewalks. Must work on snow removal or emergency operations as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must understand and have the ability to use common laboring tools and have some practical knowledge in properly caring for grounds and gardens. Largely repetitive work with some variation in material and procedures. Must have the ability to understand verbal and/or written instructions and follow them as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have and maintain a valid State of Connecticut driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL license within one (1) year from the date of hire.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include closed vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to read and comprehend basic instructions and write routine reports. The position requires the ability to effectively present information in one- on-one situations and to apply common sense in dealing with standardized situations involving only occasional or no variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. Employees are required to work long hours in adverse weather during snow storms. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

You must reside within the State of Connecticut, 60 miles from Norwich, within one year of appointment.
Examination will consist of 100% written.
