Location: Miramar, FL
Schedule: Full-Time | On-Site
Shift: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Supervisor – Serology to oversee daily clinical laboratory operations in Miramar, FL. This position is responsible for managing laboratory staff, workflow, testing quality, equipment, and resources while ensuring accurate and timely patient results within the Serology department.

The Laboratory Supervisor will provide both technical and operational leadership, including staff management and development, advanced testing, troubleshooting, quality control, regulatory compliance, and hands-on bench support when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily Serology laboratory operations, including workflow, staffing assignments, priorities, and scheduling.
  • Supervise laboratory personnel, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluations, staff development, and corrective counseling.
  • Ensure effective utilization of laboratory personnel, equipment, supplies, and other resources.
  • Perform and oversee advanced and specialized Serology testing and related laboratory procedures.
  • Troubleshoot complex or questionable results and perform confirmatory testing when appropriate.
  • Evaluate testing methodologies and recommend procedural or technical improvements.
  • Determine when additional or repeat testing is necessary to ensure accurate patient results.
  • Review and approve specialized and problem reports for accuracy and quality.
  • Establish and monitor quality control (QC) measures to ensure adherence to laboratory standards.
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of specimens processed and test results reported.
  • Provide hands-on bench coverage and perform Medical Technologist duties during staffing shortages or periods of increased workload.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in a safe, functional, clean, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete and oversee employee training, competency assessments, and related documentation.
  • Prepare special projects, statistical reports, surveys, studies, and other departmental documentation as requested.
  • Respond to technical questions from laboratory personnel and clients when applicable.
  • Participate in regulatory and government inspections as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, laboratory safety, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality of patient, client, and laboratory information.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related laboratory field required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of clinical laboratory experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time supervisory experience required.
  • Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge within Serology or a closely related clinical laboratory specialty.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing methodologies, quality control, troubleshooting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Valid Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel license required.
  • ASCP certification preferred.
  • Proven laboratory leadership, staff management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently establish work priorities and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively lead and develop laboratory personnel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling patient and client information.
  • Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to perform hands-on laboratory testing and provide technical bench support when necessary.
