Laboratory & Facilities Manager - Fountain Valley
Twining Consulting is seeking a Laboratory & Facilities Manager responsible for the day-to-day operation, organization, maintenance, and readiness of the laboratory and office facility. This position also supports laboratory testing operations while serving as the primary point of coordination for facility maintenance, equipment, supplies, security, vendors, and general workplace needs out of our Foutain Valley office.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, hands-on, proactive, and capable of identifying operational or facility issues and driving them through resolution. This position works closely with the Laboratory Director, testing personnel, administrative staff, vendors, and service providers to maintain a safe, professional, organized, and fully operational workplace.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily laboratory organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness.
- Coordinate laboratory equipment maintenance, repairs, calibration, and service as required.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, tool, and supply inventories and coordinate purchasing and replacement as needed.
- Assist with scheduling and preparation of laboratory testing activities and ensure testing areas and equipment are prepared prior to scheduled work.
- Support laboratory documentation, equipment records, and general quality-system requirements.
- Assist with receiving, storage, organization, and tracking of client samples and testing materials.
- Coordinate shipping, receiving, and movement of laboratory equipment and materials.
- Identify opportunities to improve laboratory organization, efficiency, and workflow.
- Serve as the primary coordinator for building and facility maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, doors, gates, lighting, and other building systems.
- Track facility issues and coordinate approved repairs, improvements, and minor construction projects through completion.
- Coordinate building access, locks, keys, security systems, cameras, and theft-deterrence measures.
- Maintain organized laboratory, IT, equipment, common-area, and other facility storage areas.
- Maintain relationships with landlords, property management, contractors, and service vendors.
- Coordinate purchasing of employee office equipment, furniture, workplace supplies, and workstation setup for new employees.
- Coordinate disposal, recycling, equipment removal, and general facility housekeeping needs.
- Identify and coordinate qualified service vendors and contractors, obtain competitive quotes when appropriate, and review proposals and invoices for scope and general accuracy.
- Maintain vendor contact information and service records and help control operating costs through preventative maintenance, organized purchasing, and appropriate vendor selection.
- Coordinate routine facility safety inspections and corrective actions and maintain required safety equipment, signage, and workplace supplies.
- Support laboratory quality and accreditation requirements related to equipment and facility operations.
- Assist management with implementation of laboratory and company procedures.
Requirements - Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Strong organizational and follow-through skills with the ability to manage multiple ongoing issues and priorities simultaneously.
- Comfortable working in both an office and hands-on laboratory environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general business software.
- Ability to review proposals, invoices, equipment documentation, and maintenance records.
- Proactive, self-directed, dependable, and responsive with the ability to take ownership of problems.
- Ability to manage vendors and hold service providers accountable.
- Hands-on and willing to address both large operational issues and routine workplace needs.
- 3+ years of experience in laboratory operations, facilities management, construction operations, industrial operations, or a related environment preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with basic building systems strongly preferred.
- Experience in a testing laboratory, construction, engineering, manufacturing, or similar technical environment preferred.
- Experience working within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory preferred.
- Familiarity with laboratory calibration and equipment-control requirements preferred.
- Experience with building envelope, construction materials, product testing, or specialty testing preferred.
- Experience coordinating facility improvement or equipment installation projects preferred.
- OSHA or other workplace safety training preferred.
