Working Hours and/or Working Conditions

HOURS: To be scheduled by the department as needed but not exceed 25 hours per week. May be required to workdays, evenings or weekends as determined by the instructional schedule. WORKING CONDITIONS: Some heavy lifting may be required, including loads up to 50lbs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must demonstrate strong practical skills and have a solid foundation of relevant knowledge in veterinary medicine. Must be able to follow instructions, work independently as well as part of a team, and be detail oriented. Must have good communication skills including writing, verbal skills, and the ability to follow procedures are required. May be required to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Supervision

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of the Center for Health Careers; takes supervision from the Veterinary Assistant Program Director. SUPERVISION GIVEN: None

Job Function

Perform various duties in support of full-time and part-time Veterinary Assistant Program staff. Assist in Veterinary Assistant lab activities to include animal care.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist instructors in preparing for classroom and laboratory sessions.
• Prepare equipment and consumables for lab courses and related areas.
• Set up, maintain and provide students with a clean and organized lab and classroom environment. This includes the movement and organization of lab equipment and supplies as requested.
• Ensure all equipment functions properly and safely.
• Provide support to instructors and students during practical evaluation sessions of required skills.
• Guidance of small student groups through various skills under the instruction of faculty.
• Oversee proper cleanup of lab spaces after classes.
• Assist in maintenance of various medical equipment.
• Assist with tracking supplies and maintaining proper inventory control.
• Assist with administrative tasks related to the Veterinary Assistant program.
• May assist with data input.
• May move and unpack inventory.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Must be a Licensed Veterinary Technician with current licensing and requirements for the state of Michigan.

Qualifications

Must have at least 2 years of clinical experience.
