Section of Histocompatability/Division of laboratory Medicine/Robert J. Tomsich Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine/Diagnostics Institute of Cleveland Clinic is looking for an assistant/associate director to support the histocompatibility clinical services of Allogen laboratories.  Allogen is an American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) accredited laboratory that provides histocompatibility testing and clinical consulting for bone marrow (BMT) and solid organ transplant (SOT) programs, supporting approximately 1000 transplants annually and donor typing for a local Organ Procurement Organization (OPO).   

Requirements

Candidates should hold an earned M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree and meet the histocompatibility director qualifications set by the American College for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI). Individuals who are currently training in histocompatibility or who qualify for Director-in-Training status through ACHI, with the goal of becoming ACHI-credentialed, will also be considered.

Experience and training in a high-complexity, ASHI-certified/eligible clinical laboratory supporting SOT and BMT, as well as knowledge of transplantation immunology, will be strongly considered. An academic background and a willingness to engage in clinical research are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaboratively works with director in the overall laboratory management
  2. Assists in assessing, validating, and implementing state-of-the-art technologies
  3. Reviews and approves the critical test results/reports
  4. Provides histocompatibility consultations for clinical staff served by Allogen, including participation in the on-call schedule.
  5. Assumes shared responsibility for histocompatibility education of laboratory testing staff, rotating medical students, residents, fellows, and transplantation staff.
  6. Participates in clinical research

While the primary responsibilities of this position are within the Allogen Laboratory as described above, requests from Clinical Pathology-trained MD candidates to incorporate clinical practice in another relevant subspecialty (e.g., Transfusion Medicine) will be considered. A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with experience is available at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
