The Department of Neurology at the UCLA is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Lab Assistant II to support the daily operations of a stem cell research laboratory. Under close supervision, the successful candidate will assist with routine cell culture maintenance tasks, including media changes and preparation of culture vessels, and will help support the upkeep of human iPSC and brain organoid cultures. Additional responsibilities include mixing pre-purchased reagent components, coating tissue culture plates, maintaining organized records of routine tasks, and assisting with general laboratory organization, inventory, and waste disposal. This is a hands-on, operationally focused role well-suited for individuals with a foundational interest in biomedical research who are looking to gain familiarity with a stem cell laboratory environment.
Hourly salary range: $27.54 - $33.13. The department's target salary is $27.54

Required:
Minimum of 1 year experience in Human stem cell maintenance and brain organoid generation/maintenance
General working knowledge of molecular biology, molecular genetics, cell biology, human genetics, and/or neuroscience theories and principles.
Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and supplies.
Good communication skills and ability to work well with multiple individuals.
Ability to maintain an organized working area.
Ability to keep accurate and organized lab records.
Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to switch focus as needed.
Knowledge of chemistry to prepare solutions for lab experiments.
Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for handling chemical, biohazard, and medical waste.
Knowledge of basic molecular biology/cell biology/genetic techniques. General knowledge of University procedures and compliance with Environmental Health and Safety guidelines.
Working knowledge and ability in the use of computers (PC and MAC operating systems). Willingness to work occasional overtime in order to meet deadlines related to grant applications and publications.
Skill in using various computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe products, etc.)
Excellent attention to detail, for accurate data entry and analysis. Good organization and time management skills. Always punctual. Ability to learn new laboratory techniques and new lab equipment, as needed.
Preferred:
B.S. degree or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related field.
