Description

The Labor Relations Manager is responsible for managing labor relations. This position requires strong prioritization, initiative, and operational expertise. The incumbent builds and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external affiliates and ensures effective, timely communication. The Labor Relations Manager leads and supervises the onsite staff, coordinates reporting, and maintains compliance with departmental processes. 

Essential Duties:

Management and Team Leadership to include:

  • Train and evaluate staff members
  • Hire and terminate staff members
  • Oversee administrative responsibility for scheduling and PTO
  • Drive accountability and performance based upon defined set of KPI’s
  • Create and deliver management reports on key initiatives, metrics, opportunities and risks to the customers and leaders
  • Recommend and implement changes in service and/or operations strategies.
  • Quickly examine high volume of documents and materials and monitor work to assess completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards and specifications to meet stipulated time sensitive union deadlines
  • Ensure union guidelines are adhered to, applied per Labor Association, Compliance regulations and customer contracts

Working Conditions:

  • On-Call beyond normal office operating days and hours
  • Managing a fast paced environment which relies on cell phone, land lines, emails and printed materials
  • Occasional domestic Travel Required 

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School/GED Equivalent
  • 3 Years Union Labor Relations or related experience
  • Equivalent progressive business experience
  • Competency in Excel, Access, and MS Word applications
  • 3 years Reporting Systems and Tools

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • 3 Years Marine or related industry, including operations 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management internal and external
    • Labor Relations, Labor Associations and Unions.
    • Leadership, Operations, Finance staff, as well as with customers.
  • Proactive, self-directed management approach.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and union workers
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks on time sensitive tight deadlines
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Able to provide high level of internal and external customer service
  • Able to work in a fast pace environment
