We are seeking a Lab Technician to support Quality, R&D, and manufacturing operations at an onsite facility in Niagara Falls, NY.
The Lab Technician is responsible for ensuring product quality by performing standard and specialized testing on samples collected throughout the manufacturing process. This position combines hands-on laboratory testing, quality control, data recording, sample preparation, equipment operation, and interaction with production personnel.
This is an excellent opportunity for a college student with relevant laboratory coursework or someone with 1–2 years of quality control or laboratory testing experience who wants to gain additional hands-on experience in an industrial laboratory environment.
Receive, log, identify, prepare, and track laboratory samples.
Perform routine and specialized quality testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
Organize and prioritize daily sample-testing workload.
Evaluate test results and repeat testing when results fall outside established requirements.
Accurately record, chart, maintain, and report laboratory test results.
Release materials after successful completion of required testing.
Prepare samples for microscopic and analytical testing.
Perform testing that may include:
Hardness testing
Surface area and density testing
Particle size and sieve analysis
pH and percent-solids testing
X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
ICP preparation and analysis
TGA/DTA testing
FTIR analysis
Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) preparation and imaging
Perform standard and non-standard testing for special projects and quality investigations.
Maintain accurate laboratory records and enter final test results into computer systems.
Perform routine calibration of laboratory and plant instruments.
Perform minor troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment.
Maintain laboratory supplies and properly store samples.
Clean laboratory equipment, glassware, countertops, and work areas.
Follow established 5S and laboratory housekeeping procedures.
Work with manufacturing supervisors, production personnel, Quality, and R&D on testing and special projects.
Follow all established laboratory, plant, and safety procedures.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
General laboratory or R&D knowledge, including proper chemical handling.
Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, and graph/chart data.
Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently follow established testing protocols.
Ability to accurately document and report test results.
Strong time-management and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple testing priorities.
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Strong problem-solving and observational skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in both laboratory and manufacturing/plant environments.
The client is particularly interested in candidates who are:
College students with relevant science, laboratory, chemistry, engineering, materials, or technical coursework; or
Candidates with approximately 1–2 years of laboratory testing, quality control, or related technical experience.
Prior industrial laboratory experience is helpful but is not necessarily required for a candidate with the appropriate technical aptitude and ability to learn.

The Lab Technician will work alongside another lab technician approximately 50–75% of the time and should be comfortable working independently during the remainder of the shift.
The position also regularly interacts with production operators and leads who bring samples to the laboratory, as well as the Production Planner, Manufacturing Manager, Production Supervisor, R&D, and other team members.
The laboratory utilizes a variety of testing instruments and equipment that may include:
Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
ICP instrumentation
X-Ray Diffraction equipment
Hardness testers
Microscopes and image analyzers
Surface area testing equipment
pH and conductivity meters
Particle and sieve testing equipment
Scales and balances
Ovens and small kilns
Centrifuges
Laboratory glassware
Various hand and power tools
Candidates are not expected to necessarily have experience with every instrument listed. A strong laboratory foundation, technical aptitude, attention to detail, and willingness to learn are important.
Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive hand movements as required.
Ability to push, pull, and lift approximately 5–30 pounds.
Must be comfortable working in a laboratory and manufacturing environment.
Work may involve dust, fumes, chemicals, moving equipment, noise, and varying temperatures.
Required PPE may include safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing, and face shields, depending on the task.
Position involves working with laboratory chemicals and hazardous materials while following established safety procedures.
Flexibility to work assigned day-shift hours and overtime when required.
This position is 100% onsite and works five day shifts per week.
The final schedule will be either:
Monday through Friday, or
Tuesday through Saturday
Typical listed hours are 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, although exact day-shift hours may have some flexibility.
Potential for extension or conversion beyond the current assignment is unknown at this time.
