Position: Lab Technician I
Location: San Diego, CA 92111
Contract Duration: 3 Months (Potential for Extension or Full-Time Conversion)
Pay Rate: $16.88 - $24.94/hour (W2)

Position Overview
Our client is seeking a motivated Lab Technician I to join the Laboratory Operations team. In this role, you will provide essential operational support to research laboratories by maintaining laboratory facilities, servicing equipment, managing hazardous waste, and ensuring laboratories remain fully stocked and operational. You will also partner with Lab Managers to troubleshoot equipment issues and assist in developing laboratory maintenance procedures.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately document laboratory maintenance activities and operational data using laboratory management software.
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment, including incubators, water baths, centrifuges, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Respond to and triage laboratory help desk requests, troubleshooting equipment and facility issues such as leaks and equipment malfunctions.
  • Conduct daily laboratory inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and report any Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) concerns.
  • Coordinate the collection, handling, and disposal of biological and chemical hazardous waste in accordance with established procedures.
  • Process laboratory glassware through washing and autoclaving while maintaining adequate supplies of PPE and laboratory consumables.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and distributing laboratory supplies.
  • Support general laboratory operations to ensure a safe, organized, and efficient research environment.
 
Qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree in biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or another scientific discipline with 1+ year of laboratory experience, OR
  • High School Diploma/GED with 3+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Experience working with scientific laboratory equipment and familiarity with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a proactive, customer-focused approach.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and adaptable in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • DOT and Hazardous Waste Management certifications are preferred but not required.
