    Description

    Job Summary

    Perform a variety of standardized microbiological tests on raw materials, environmental samples, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with food safety and quality requirements.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform standardized microbiological testing using approved methods and laboratory procedures.
    • Prepare, label, and process samples for microbiological analysis.
    • Prepare media, reagents, and laboratory supplies according to established procedures.
    • Operate laboratory equipment such as incubators, balances, pipettes, autoclaves, colony counters, and other testing instruments.
    • Record test results accurately and maintain laboratory documentation in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Assist with environmental monitoring programs by processing and analyzing environmental swab samples.
    • Monitor incubation schedules and ensure timely completion of testing activities.
    • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
    • Follow aseptic techniques and biosecurity procedures to prevent sample contamination.
    • Dispose of biological waste and laboratory materials according to established safety procedures.
    • Notify laboratory leadership of atypical results, out-of-specification findings, equipment issues, or testing concerns.
    • Support investigation, verification, and validation activities as assigned.
    • Participate in laboratory proficiency testing, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Comply with all food safety, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements and company policies.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Associate's degree or coursework in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, Chemistry, or related field preferred.
    • Previous laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
    • Basic understanding of microbiology principles and laboratory techniques.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to follow written procedures and work with minimal supervision after training.
    • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
    • Ability to accurately document and communicate test results.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand, walk, and work in a laboratory environment for extended periods.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
    • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Ability to perform repetitive laboratory tasks requiring manual dexterity and attention to detail.

    Preferred Skills

    • Knowledge of food microbiology and environmental monitoring programs.
    • Familiarity with aseptic techniques and microbiological testing methods.
    • Experience working in a GMP, food manufacturing, or regulated laboratory environment.
    • Understanding of laboratory safety and quality systems.
