Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to conduct residue sampling, testing, reporting, and maintenance functions necessary to operate the residue program at our customer site lab. The role involves maintaining the laboratory and its equipment to ensure smooth operations.

Responsibilities

• Accurately collect all fruit and liquid residue samples from the packing house as scheduled.
• Conduct fruit and solution residue analyses accurately and on time, following the appropriate procedures.
• Prepare and route analysis results according to procedure.
• Wash and ready glassware and equipment for the next sampling period.
• Discuss any changes to procedures and schedules with management before implementation.
• Enter results from analyses and any other requested data into an electronic notebook daily.
• Complete standard curves and accuracy checks for residue procedures as scheduled.
• Conduct routine maintenance on the gas chromatograph and other equipment per procedure and schedule.
• Communicate problems with equipment, methods, or operations promptly to management and assist in implementing solutions.
• Frequently attend to lines of communication (phone, e-mail, posted messages) and return messages promptly.
• Stock reagents and standards, maintaining their integrity.
• Monitor supply levels regularly and communicate the need for additional supplies in a timely manner.
• Keep the lab clean and orderly.
• Maintain lab equipment in proper working condition and promptly communicate any issues.
• Wear all required PPE for sampling and outside of lab duties.
• Dispose of all waste as instructed.
• Secure the lab site and equipment as requested to prevent theft or unauthorized access.

Essential Skills

• Experience with analytical chemistry and gas chromatograph.
• Proficiency in computer skills including Excel.
• Experience in quality control and quality assurance.
• Data entry skills.
• chemistry and biology.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in a scientific field preferred; reasonable progress toward such degree mandatory.
• Good basic laboratory skills including pipetting, measuring techniques, reagent preparation.
• Comfortable working with chemicals.
• Experience in a chemistry lab through classwork or job preferred.
• Basic understanding of GC use and maintenance highly valued.
• Ability to use e-mail, Microsoft Word & Excel.
• Comfortable multi-tasking.
• Attention to detail.
• Conscientious and self-motivated; able to work without direct supervision.
• Comfortable working alone.
• Reliable and have reliable transportation to job site.
• Safety-conscious.
• Ability to read and adhere to procedures and policies.

Work Environment

The role is based in a portable lab onsite, with candidates required to be open to shift work in a 24/7 operation. Technicians may use adult tricycles to navigate the facility for different sampling areas. Outside of the lab, hard hats, vests, and steel toe slip-ons are mandatory.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Del Rey, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.50/hr.
