Job Details
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare aluminum and other metal samples for metallurgical examination and quality investigations.
Work closely with quality, production, and engineering personnel to coordinate sample preparation and testing.
Perform metallographic sample preparation, including machining, cutting, sectioning, polishing, and etching.
Conduct laboratory testing and material evaluations using a variety of analytical and inspection equipment.
Operate, maintain, and monitor laboratory equipment used for material characterization and quality testing.
Perform microscopic examinations to evaluate material structure, defects, and other metallurgical characteristics.
Assist with the identification and evaluation of conditions such as inclusions, porosity, grain structure, segregation, and other material abnormalities.
Photograph laboratory specimens and prepare supporting documentation and reports as needed.
Compile test results and assist with the preparation of charts, graphs, drawings, and technical reports.
Assist with nondestructive testing activities and material inspection procedures.
Support heat-treatment monitoring and related material evaluation activities.
Follow established laboratory, quality, and safety procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
Assist the quality and metallurgical teams with special projects and investigations.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Six months to one year of experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, quality, metallurgy, materials testing, or related environment preferred.
Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
Familiarity with metallurgical testing, material inspection, or nondestructive testing methods is preferred.
Basic understanding of industry standards and laboratory testing procedures.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
Ability to accurately record, organize, and communicate technical information.
Must have adequate near vision to perform detailed laboratory and microscopic examinations.
Must be able to distinguish colors used in laboratory testing and product inspection procedures.
