Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00AM - 5:00PM
Pay Rate: $25.00 - $28.00/hr
Contract Type: 1 year contract with potential extension or conversion to a direct hire

Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Lab Support Specialist to support the daily operations of a laboratory in Wilmington, MA. This role focuses on laboratory organization, chemical and waste management, supply ordering, inventory control, equipment maintenance, vendor coordination, and procurement support.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in a science-related field, with laboratory experience preferred. This individual will help maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped laboratory while supporting operational efficiency and learning next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations and Organization

  • Lead monthly laboratory organization meetings to address concerns, share updates, and communicate important information.
  • Coordinate customer visits to the Wilmington Lab 360 facility.
  • Manage laboratory coat inventory and related logistics.

Waste and Chemical Management

  • Manage laboratory waste streams and coordinate waste pickups with Triumvirate.
  • Maintain chemical inventory and oversee the receipt and management of new and existing chemicals entering the laboratory.
  • Follow established laboratory safety procedures and chemical-handling protocols.

Ordering and Inventory Management

  • Place, track, and receive orders for common laboratory supplies and consumables.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate stock and prevent supply shortages.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and coordinate with suppliers to resolve ordering issues.

Vendor and Procurement Coordination

  • Coordinate vendor visits and onsite service appointments.
  • Manage laboratory service contracts and collaborate with Procurement on contract renewals.
  • Coordinate new equipment acquisitions and capital expenditure (CapEx) purchases.
  • Work with Procurement to obtain competitive quotes and support cost-effective purchasing decisions.

Equipment Maintenance and Support

  • Perform daily, monthly, and annual equipment maintenance activities, as required.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and calibration activities.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs with vendors or technical support teams.
  • Maintain appropriate equipment maintenance and calibration documentation.

Shipping and Receiving

  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments of laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Ensure timely receipt, tracking, and distribution of deliveries.

Technical Laboratory Support

  • Learn next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation workflows.
  • Assist with manual testing activities as trained and qualified.
  • Support laboratory personnel with day-to-day operational and workflow needs.
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, or another science-related field.
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory supplies, equipment maintenance, chemical inventory, or laboratory safety practices is an advantage.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and collaborate with laboratory teams, vendors, and procurement personnel.
  • Willingness to learn new laboratory procedures and technical workflows.
