Job Title: Lab ManagerDuration: 12 Months Location: North Reading, MAPayrate: $65 to $80 per hour. Job Description:The Lab Manager owns and continuously improves a critical engineering lab environment that enables product development, testing, and innovation. In this role, you will lead day-to-day lab operations, support engineering teams, and ensure systems, equipment, and infrastructure are reliable, safe, and ready to scale with future programs.
This position combines hands-on technical leadership with operational ownership and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities:- Lead, coach, and support lab technicians, fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment
- Prioritize and assign work to meet project and operational needs
- Develop technical capability and safe operating practices across lab users
- Ensure high availability and performance of test systems, equipment, and lab infrastructure
- Establish and execute preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting processes
- Maintain safe and compliant lab operations aligned with company and industry standards
- Train new users and enable effective, safe access to lab resources
- Partner with engineering and facilities teams to support new product introductions and lab expansion
- Optimize lab layout, capacity, and workflows to improve efficiency and throughput
- Manage lab assets, including equipment lifecycle, inventory, and upgrades
- Drive decommissioning and transitions of legacy systems
- Identify and implement improvements that reduce downtime, increase efficiency, and enhance user experience
- Evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies to expand lab capability
- Establish best practices for lab operations, documentation, and system utilization
Must Have: - Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in engineering lab operations, test environments, or system maintenance
- Experience leading or coordinating technical teams
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across complex systems
- Working knowledge of calibration, maintenance, and lab safety practices
- Clear communication and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
