Lab Engineer

Role Overview

  • Support R&D scientists with:
    • Laboratory PCs
    • Scientific instrumentation
    • Laboratory devices
    • Computer systems and software
  • Maintain operational computer infrastructure for laboratory environments
  • Onboard, secure, configure, and maintain hardware
  • Troubleshoot laboratory equipment, software, and data connectivity
  • Facilitate technology needs for R&D business users

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing computer infrastructure supporting approximately 5,000 PCs globally
  • Image and onboard new computers:
    • Join devices to the domain
    • Connect devices to the network
    • Configure and secure devices
    • Decommission hardware when required
  • Secure and protect new and existing hardware
  • Consult with business users regarding equipment and technology needs
  • Troubleshoot and implement data flows for scientific instruments
  • Provide break/fix and desktop support
  • Support scientists with:
    • Incident management
    • User support and coaching
    • Access management
  • Implement validated data backup solutions for laboratory analytical equipment
  • Investigate equipment and software issues
  • Perform technical configurations and documentation
  • Test and validate computer software across different environments
  • Prepare technical documentation

Technical Skills

  • Strong computer troubleshooting skills
  • End-User Computing / Desktop Support
  • Break/Fix support — approximately 80% of workload
  • Hardware troubleshooting
  • Networking concepts:
    • Network topology
    • VLANs
    • Static/Dynamic IPs
    • Subnetting
    • IT/OT Networks
    • Basic firewall concepts
    • OSI model
    • Network-layer troubleshooting
  • Active Directory
  • Computer security
  • Agile ways of working
  • D2D and project support
  • ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems
  • Microsoft Excel — preferred
  • Microsoft operating systems
  • iOS and Linux — preferred

Validation & Compliance

  • Experience with validated systems / GxP is a plus
  • Laboratory analytical equipment support
  • Validated data backup solutions
  • Software testing and validation
  • Technical configuration and documentation
  • Support for both GxP and non-GxP environments
