Job Summary

  • Support scientists with laboratory PCs, instrumentation, and devices in an R&D environment.
  • Maintain operational computer systems used by scientists.
  • Join newly supplied hardware to the network.
  • Secure and harden devices.
  • Support business and laboratory technology needs.
  • Troubleshoot scientific instruments and implement data flows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing computer infrastructure supporting approximately 5,000 PCs globally.
  • Image and onboard new computers into the domain and network.
  • Decommission computers and related equipment when required.
  • Secure and protect new and existing hardware.
  • Consult with business users regarding equipment and technology needs.
  • Troubleshoot and implement data flows for scientific instruments.
  • Provide incident management, user support, and coaching for scientists.
  • Manage user access and permissions.
  • Test and validate computer software across different environments.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Implement validated data backup solutions on laboratory analytical equipment.
  • Perform equipment and software investigations, documentation, and technical configuration within GxP and non-GxP environments.
  • Support Day-to-Day (D2D) activities and project initiatives.
  • Work according to Agile methodologies.

Technical / Functional Skills

  • Excellent computer troubleshooting skills, including:
    • Device connectivity issues
    • Laboratory software issues
    • Hardware and system troubleshooting
  • Strong End-User Computing / Desktop Support background.
  • Break/fix troubleshooting experience is critical, as it represents approximately 80% of the Lab Engineer workload.
  • Understanding of hardware components and networking concepts.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Network topology
    • VLANs
    • Static and Dynamic IPs
    • Subnetting
    • IT/OT Networks
    • Basic firewall concepts
    • OSI model
    • Network-layer troubleshooting
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory.
  • Background in computer security.
  • Experience with validated systems (GxP) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.
  • Microsoft Excel skills are a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft operating systems.
  • Knowledge of iOS and Linux is a plus.

GxP / Laboratory Support

  • Implement validated data backup solutions for laboratory analytical equipment.
  • Support equipment and software investigations.
  • Perform technical configuration and documentation.
  • Work with both GxP and non-GxP laboratory environments.
  • Support software testing and validation.
  • Complete testing across multiple environments.
  • Prepare technical documentation related to validation activities.

Generic / Managerial Skills
