Job Title: Lab Assistant
Location: Wood Dale IL 60191
Shift/Time Zone: 1:00 am to 9:30 am /Central time
Pay Rate: $18/hour plus 10% Shift Differential - Rate is $19.80/hour
(Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.) The rate is based on years of DIRECT EXPERIENCE as listed in the resume.
Job Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and prepare patient specimens for laboratory testing.
- Centrifuge, aliquot, label, and organize specimens according to established procedures.
- Check specimens for clots, fibrin, and other issues that may affect testing.
- Prepare worklists and specimens at designated laboratory workstations.
- Perform routine laboratory equipment maintenance and ensure workstations are clean and ready for use.
- Prepare reagents, media, slides, and other materials needed for daily laboratory operations.
- Monitor and resolve pending specimens and locate missing samples as needed.
- Enter and maintain accurate specimen, temperature, and laboratory records in the laboratory information system.
- Perform assigned quality control and quality assurance activities.
- Properly handle and dispose of biohazardous materials while following all PPE and laboratory safety requirements.
- Complete required training and competency activities and follow established laboratory procedures.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff and other personnel to support efficient daily laboratory operations.
Education Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant training is preferred.
- Coursework in mathematics and/or science is preferred.
Experience Required
- No prior laboratory or healthcare work experience required.
