Position Summary

Support the hands-on education and training of future healthcare professionals on a flexible morning schedule! Pima Medical Institute is seeking a Medical Assistant Lab Assistant to join our faculty at our Mesa campus (957 S. Dobson Road) for 8 hours per week during morning lab sessions.

In this role, you will work side-by-side with program instructors to set up clinical lab scenarios, guide students through practical skill check-offs (vitals, phlebotomy, injections, EKGs), grade assignments using instructor keys, and ensure students master essential clinical equipment and safety techniques.

Key Responsibilities

Lab Preparation & Instructional Support:

  • Scenario Execution: Coordinate regularly with program faculty and didactic instructors to set up, schedule, and execute practical morning lab scenarios.

  • Hands-on Demonstration: Demonstrate the proper operation of all medical assistant lab equipment, diagnostic devices, and safety protocols.

  • Supply Management: Monitor lab inventory, inspect equipment, prepare supply requests, and set up lab stations prior to morning sessions.

Student Guidance & Grading:

  • Skill Check-Offs: Assist lead instructors during module practicals to evaluate and verify that student skill check-off sheets are completed accurately and submitted on time.

  • Academic Feedback: Assist in grading student homework and quizzes using provided instructor keys. Schedule regular check-ins with students to advise them on their practical skill progress.

  • Faculty Collaboration: Provide regular feedback to lead instructors and program leadership regarding student performance, learning needs, and safety compliance.

Record Keeping & Compliance:

  • Confidentiality: Maintain detailed, confidential student records regarding practical evaluations, skill progress, and attendance per institutional policy.

  • Safety Protocols: Enforce strict adherence to OSHA, biohazard disposal, infection control, and universal precautions within the lab environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education & Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program recognized by the USDE or CHEA (or equivalent recognized training entity) AND three (3) years of occupational experience as a Medical Assistant.

OR

  • A minimum of four (4) years of job-related training and experience for non-accredited program graduates.

  • Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • Current, unencumbered national certification or registration (e.g., CMA, RMA, or equivalent).

  • Current license, certification, or designation as required by local, state, or federal laws to work as a Medical Assistant in Arizona.

  • Technical Skills: Strong practical clinical skills; clear verbal and written communication; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic digital tools.

Compensation & Part-Time Benefits

  • Hiring Range: $20.80 to $24.96 per hour.

  • Schedule: Part-Time (8 hours per week, morning shift availability).
