The La Pine Youth Education and Access Program (LEAP) connects AmeriCorps members with meaningful service opportunities that strengthen youth, families, and communities across rural Central Oregon. Members serve alongside local schools, parks and recreation programs, nonprofits, and community organizations to expand access to youth development, wellness, recreation, education, and workforce opportunities. LEAP is designed for people who want to make a tangible difference while building practical skills and exploring future career pathways. Depending on their service setting, members may support youth programs, community outreach, mentoring, recreation and enrichment activities, career exploration, workforce readiness, and other projects that increase access to resources and opportunities in rural communities. Members are supported throughout their service through structured onboarding, site-based supervision, professional development, recurring cohort gatherings, and opportunities to connect with fellow AmeriCorps members serving throughout the region. Members gain hands-on experience in fields such as youth development, education, recreation, behavioral health-adjacent services, nonprofit and public-sector work, workforce development, and community engagement. Member Duties : The Special Projects Coordinator supports La Pine Parks & Recreation District in developing and expanding community programs, partnerships, and special initiatives. The member will engage with residents through outreach, events, public meetings, surveys, and other opportunities for community participation; help increase awareness of District and partner programs and resources; and support collaborative projects from early planning through implementation. Activities may include preparing outreach materials, coordinating community events, gathering and summarizing public feedback, researching community resources, supporting strategic planning activities, tracking participation and project outcomes, and helping identify ways to strengthen future programs. This position offers hands-on experience in community engagement, project coordination, communications, partnership development, and local government service.
