POSITION DESCRIPTION Job Title: Library Services SpecialistDepartment: Library Services Reports To: Director of Library Services Prepared Date: Revised September 4, 2026Part-Time Part-Time, (20 hours)Remote: NoSummary: The Library Services Specialist, through faithful service to accomplish the mission of Kuyper College supports the academic objectives, programs and curriculum of the College by providing appropriate resources and services. The position assists in the management and administration of a library services program by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties as assigned.Collaboration and Integration with the Larger Kuyper CommunityoLearn and support Kuyper College's mission and vision as it applies tolibrary services and student academic supportoDevelop and maintain healthy relationships with other staff, faculty, anddepartmentsoActively participate in Chapel services and student small groupsCollection Management and CatalogingoConduct inventory, shifting, and rightsizing of the collectionoPerform MARC record maintenance and cataloging corrections as neededoCompile collection development recommendations for subject-areaacquisitionsoPerform copy cataloging for new Zondervan Collection repository itemsoOversee and assist in processing new itemsSignage, Displays, and DecorationsoDesign and update library signage using Canva according to KuyperCollege's branding and styles guidelinesoCreate monthly themed book displaysoAssist with holiday decorationsLibrary Management System and Discovery LayeroMaintain and configure Alma integrated library system and Primodiscovery layer (Kuyper OneSearch)oSupport future library system updates including data cleaning,configuration, and testingoTroubleshoot patron issues in Alma and Primo oRevise student instruction documents as necessaryPatron Services, Circulation, and Interlibrary LoanoProvide patron-facing services to staff, faculty, students, and guestsincluding but not limited to circulation services, utilizing the discoverylayer, locating resources, using public computers, etc.oOversee circulation procedures and train student staff on circulationprocessesoOversee MeLCat and ILL procedures and train student staff on resourcesharing processesoImplement and administer library services to patrons in-person and onlineoTroubleshoot e-access issues for patrons accessing electronic materialsInstruction and Research AssistanceoImplement and administer course reservesoProvide library instruction in various research strategies and introduce/orientstudents to library resourcesoProvide one-on-one research assistance to students and facultyoMaintain current knowledge of instructional trends and researchStudent Staff Supervision and TrainingoTrain students in Library of Congress call number systemoTrain students in circulation, patron services, item processing, etc.oCollaborate with the library director in vetting, interviewing, and hiring studentstaff for KuyperWorksOngoing Professional Development:oParticipate in professional organizations, workshops, and continuing educationsopportunities as funding is availableoProactively explore Ex Libris' product documentation and continue learning theLibrary Management System and relevant updatesoCollaborate with the library director for developing and implementinginstitutional effectiveness goalsOther Possible Duties:oMaintain library social media accounts with posts related to special events,featured displays, and announcementsoCollaborate with the library director on developing assessment instruments toevaluate the library's contribution to student learningoServe on campus committees as requested Education and/or Experience A Bachelor's degree from an accredited school. Related experience or training will beconsidered 1-3 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; academiclibrary experience preferred Demonstrated effective communication abilities Proven ability to work with minimum supervision Experience in reference, instruction and relevant computer technologies Experience with library management systems (Alma/Primo preferred)Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a high degree of computer literacy and experience with relevant computer technologies, such as: integrated library automation system software, learning management system, database software, spreadsheet software and Google products. Experience with Primo (Kuyper OneSearch), Open Athens and Ex Libris Alma.Other skills that will lend themselves toward success:Language Skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional literature, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of patrons, staff, faculty, students, and the general public. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and develop solutions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
