FOOD & NUTRITION KITCHEN ASSISTANT VARIOUS SCHOOLS Hours 3.0 to 5.5

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION A Kitchen Assistant performs assigned tasks in designated areas related to the operation of successful food and nutrition programs within the school. A Kitchen Assistant is responsible to the Lead Assistant and/or the Food a nd Nutrition Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION

  1. Assists in food production.
  2. Transports food and supplies between the preparing kitchen and its finishing kitchen(s)*.
  3. Can or must learn to operate typical commercial food preparation equipment such as slicers, steamers, ovens, and microwaves.
  4. Can or must learn to operate computerized POS equipment.
  5. Follows Manager/Lead Assistant's instructions in preparing, portioning, and serving meals.
  6. Participates in job-related training classes and workshops.
  7. Follows established sanitation and safety procedure s in use and care of equipment, storing and serving food, and personal habits.
  8. Assists in maintaining daily-required forms.
  9. Participates in merchandising and promotional activities.
  10. Demonstrates a positive, cooperative attitude.
  11. Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
  12. Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
  13. Has good interpersonal communication skills.
  14. Has completed the eighth grade.
  15. Able to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  16. Able to lift 35 pounds on a recurring basis.
  17. Able to walk, bend, stoop, and reach without restrictions.
  18. Has a valid driver's license and access to a vehicl e for use to transport food and supplies in certain positions as determined by the Supervisor*.
  • Applicable for assignments requiring the transportation of food and supplies.

SALARY The salary range for a Food & Nutrition Kitchen Ass istant for the school year 2026-2027 is $10,053.57- $21,747.00, with potential to increase with experience.
