POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, performs daily work assignments for the Senior Center Division of the Community Services Department in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.

RECRUITMENT QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Sufficient education to perform essential duties and understand and follow oral and written instructions;
  • Commercial dishwashing experience;
  • Proof of a valid New Mexico Food Handler Card must be provided on or before hire date;
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Desired:

  • Experience in the food service industry preparing large-quantity servings.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to the City of Alamogordo.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for following all food safety and sanitation procedures governed by City, State and Federal guidelines;
  • Washes dishes, pots, pans, utensils, trays, and silverware using the commercial dishwasher, or the four-compartment sink method; logs PPM sanitation records daily; monitors chemical usage;
  • Prepares consumables for the condiment bar according to the daily menu and in compliance with the menu analysis provided; cleans and stores food from the condiment bar;
  • Assists the Kitchen Cook in preparing and serving nutritious meals, including home-bound meals, according to established menus and time schedules and in compliance with health regulations, including preparation of main course, vegetable and/or fruit dishes, baking bread, salads, and desserts, according to standard recipes and instruction;
  • Responsible for documenting daily food/supplies usage on the inventory draw sheets according to inventory policy and procedure;
  • Helps to serve and maintain adequate food inventories on the steam tables, including hot, cold, and salad menu items;
  • Helps to document and maintain proper temperature records of foods, refrigerators, freezers, and steam table;
  • May participate with the Meals on Wheels program (MOW) by helping to prepare and/or pack menu items for delivery, clean and/or sanitizing containers, baskets, and other washable items;
  • Cleans the drink station after use of the day, prepares the drink station by having it ready for the next day;
  • Assists with the laundry by putting aprons and towels to wash and dry; assists with folding and putting away laundry;
  • Maintains kitchen area, walk-in freezer, equipment, steam tables, and utensils in a safe, clean, and neat manner according to health regulations;
  • Responsible for proper storage of inventories/items delivered;
  • Maintains a clean personal appearance and washes hands frequently during food preparation and cleanup;
  • With proper licensing, may operate a City vehicle;
  • Contributes to a high-quality work culture through participation in training and mentoring to develop skills, including safety-related training and skills;
  • Interact professionally and provides excellent customer service to all levels of City staff and citizens to ensure high operational and service standards; and
  • Performs duties in accordance with the Employee Manual, Department Policies and Procedures, City of Alamogordo Ordinances, and any applicable State or Federal authority.
