QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold a valid teaching license issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) (e.g., Cross-Categorical Special Education #1801 or Intellectual Disabilities #1810).

  • Alternative licensure pathways will be considered, as permitted by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

  • Pupil Services/Special Education Director and Building Principal

JOB GOAL:

To provide each student with the maximum opportunity to learn through high levels of student engagement, personalized instruction, and the development of citizenship and life skills. This position supports the Southern Door County School District's mission to ensure all students graduate prepared for college, career, and community success.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position involves working with approximately 6-10 students, as well as collaborating with Elementary and Middle School teachers and instructional associates, to provide individualized instruction and support for students receiving special education services.

The first day of school for the 2026-2027 school year is Monday, August 31, 2026. New teacher orientation will take place August 11-13, 2026, and district in-service days for all new teachers are scheduled for August 24-27, 2026.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • IEP Development & Compliance: Lead the Evaluation and Individualized Education Program (IEP) process for assigned students in strict accordance with Wisconsin DPI guidelines. Design, implement, and monitor goals that address both academic progress and functional, independent living skills.

  • Instructional Adaptation: Deliver specialized, data-driven instruction aligned with the Wisconsin Essential Elements for students with significant cognitive disabilities. Utilize assistive technology, augmentative communication tools, and modified curricula to ensure equitable access to learning.

  • Life Skills & Community Integration: Cultivate self-advocacy, functional communication, social-emotional growth, and daily living skills to prepare students for meaningful community inclusion and future transition pathways.

  • Collaborative Leadership: Direct and collaborate with instructional associates/paraprofessionals to ensure consistent delivery of accommodations and modifications. Partner with general education teachers to facilitate Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) opportunities.

INTERVIEW PROCESS:
