Duties

The Teacher Assistant is responsible to the teacher who serves as his/her immediate Supervisor. Tasks may include monitoring and continuing instruction to individuals or small groups of students. In addition, the Teacher Assistant shall be assigned clerical duties that involve either classroom or building management. In the absence of the classroom teacher the certified Teacher Assistant will assume the teaching responsibilities when appropriate.

Qualifications

• Teacher Assistants will possess or be able to possess, a paraprofessional license through the Regional Office of Education
• Teacher Assistants will possess the ability to communicate and work cooperatively with Supervising teachers.
• Teacher Assistants will display competence in writing and oral communication skills.

Paraprofessional License Requirements:

• At least 19 years of age
• 1 of the Following:
• Associate's degree or higher
• 60 semester hours of coursework
• High School Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro
• High School Diploma or GED and the following scores on the ACT Workkeys:
• Applied Mathematics/Applied Math (with a score of 4)
• Reading for information/Workplace Documents (with a score of 4)
