Position Details
Almont Community Schools is searching for a Director of Student Success at Orchard Primary School (K-3). This person plays a vital role in supporting the school in academic achievement, behavioral/social emotional support, and setting a positive school culture. This role is grant funded for the 2026-2027 school year.
Qualifications: A minimum of 3-5 years working with elementary aged students; a valid teaching, counseling, or administrative license. A masters in counseling, school administration, or social work preferred.
Required Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; excellent organizational and time
management abilities; problem solving and critical thinking ability; ability to work individually and
with a team; flexible and open-minded.
Responsibilities
Behavioral/Non-Academic Supports
Support discipline and behavioral challenges utilizing PBIS (positive behavior incentive
structure) and restorative practice procedures in a manner consistent with school and
district policies.
Become trained in CSTAG (comprehensive school threat assessment guide) to conduct
investigations into potential threats made by and between students for the safety of all
students.
Crisis intervention, de-escalation, and prevention with at-risk students.
Work with the principal to set a positive school climate through the implementation of
PBIS program, monthly school assemblies, and other incentive programs.
Push into classrooms on a monthly basis to deliver Social Emotional Learning utilizing
the approved school curriculum of TRAILS or the Positivity Project. Tie Social
Emotional Lessons to school's expectations to support positive decision making.
Work with students struggling to make positive choices at school through a variety of
strategies (check-in/check out system, weekly meetings on positive behavior,
implementing behavior plans, etc.)
Lead and collaborate with teachers to promote positive behavior in the classroom.
Clearly communicate with parents/families on how school and home can collaborate to
support students making excellent choices at school.
Support students qualifying as at-risk.
Work with the principal to plan and deliver high quality professional development for teachers
and staff.
Regularly communicate and collaborate with teachers and parents to create solutions
for student success (i.e. mental health support plan, attendance plans, academic
support plans).
Build strong relationships with teachers, students, and community to foster a
supportive and collaborative environment.
Support, create, and participate in outside of school events.
Support and promote school safety.
Work with families struggling with attendance and truancy issues.
Co-coordinate Title I, II, III, and IV program planning as well as other district grants.
Other duties as assigned.
Academic Supports
Work with students needing additional ELA and Math support particularly those
qualifying for Title 1, 504, and IEP support. Including, but not limited to, push-in and
pull-out support for both individual and small groups.
Provide ELA and math coaching with individuals and groups of teachers.
Participate in 3x yearly data days alongside teachers, principal, and literacy coach
to review student growth/progress and create intervention strategies.
Collaborate with the principal to lead a monthly I-Team (child study). Including early
identification of students for additional support, providing strategies to support these
students.
Collect and analyze data to track student success and identify trends.
