    Position Summary

    The JV1 Assistant Coach supports the JV1 Head Coach in the daily operation, instruction, and supervision of the junior varsity program. The primary purpose of the JV1 level is player development and preparation for the varsity level - results matter, but they are not the measure of the job. The assistant is responsible for helping every athlete on the JV1 roster improve technically, tactically, physically, and personally over the course of the season, and for reinforcing a consistent program standard across all three levels.

    Essential Duties

    Instruction and Practice

    • Assist in planning and delivering practice sessions using program terminology, core drills, and coaching points.
    • Lead assigned position groups, small-sided work, or session blocks as directed by the JV1 Head Coach.
    • Provide individual technical feedback to players and track development across the season.
    • Support the strength and conditioning routines installed by program staff.

    Matchday

    • Assist with warm-up, substitutions, in-game coaching, and post-match review.
    • Support the head coach in distributing playing time consistent with the developmental purpose of the level.
    • Manage assigned matchday logistics: equipment, rosters, sideline organization, and travel accountability.

    Supervision and Safety

    • Supervise athletes at all practices, matches, team events, and during travel; no athlete is left unsupervised.
    • Follow all district and WIAA health and safety protocols, including concussion and cardiac protocols.
    • Defer to the licensed athletic trainer on injury evaluation and all return-to-play decisions.
    • Report suspected abuse or neglect consistent with Wisconsin mandatory reporter obligations and district policy.

    Communication and Administration

    • Use the program''s communication platform (Band) as the official channel for scheduling and team information.
    • Assist with attendance, rosters, equipment inventory, and uniform issue and return.
    • Participate in staff meetings, tryout evaluation, and mid- and post-season player meetings.
    • Communicate professionally with families, routing questions about roles and playing time to the head coach.

    Program Contribution

    • Model and reinforce the program''s core values: Love, Integrity, Self-Discipline, and Collaboration.
    • Support program service initiatives, team events, and community activities.
    • Contribute to the vertical alignment of terminology, standards, and expectations across JV2, JV1, and Varsity.
