    DPS Information Technology Last Update: January 2024 Durham Public Schools Information Technology Job Description Jr. Systems Administrator JOB TITLE: Jr. Systems Administrator REPORTS TO: Director of IT Operations SALARY: Based on State and Local Classified Salary Schedules STATUS: Permanent, 12 months, Classified, Exempt SUMMARY: The Junior Systems Administrator will assist in maintaining and enhancing the reliability, security, and performance of our IT systems within our environment. Working closely with senior administrators, they will contribute to the day-to-day management of our data, servers, and user devices, ensuring a smooth and efficient technology experience for students, teachers, and staff. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    1. Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer systems and peripherals.
    2. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as software updates and system patches.
    3. Monitor system performance, ensuring optimal functionality and identifying potential issues.
    4. Assist in the implementation of backup and recovery procedures to safeguard critical data.
    5. Provide first-level technical support to end-users, including students, teachers, and administrative staff.
    6. Work closely with the IT team to contribute to the development and implementation of IT policies and procedures.
    7. Conduct basic training sessions for end-users on system usage, software applications, and best practices.
    8. Create documentation and guides to assist users in resolving common issues independently.
    9. Collaborate with the senior systems administrators to maintain network security and ensure data integrity.
    10. Support the administration of local area networks (LAN) and assist with troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
    11. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Any relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Associate) is a plus. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    13. Excellent written communication skills, ability to perform within a team environment. Maintains confidentiality of information exposed to during business regarding students, supervisors, or other employees.
    14. Experience working with a help desk ticketing systems and performing formal change control.
    15. Must be detail oriented and thorough.
    16. Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, technical instructions, and repair manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate well with all levels within the organization.
    17. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers to repair equipment or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, crawl, and use a ladder to reach equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
    18. Must maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to move objects constantly; work considered light work. Light work requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
