Job Description
We are seeking a motivated Junior Data Centre Technician to join our on-site operations team in Reston, VA. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career IT professionals looking to build hands-on experience in data centre environments. You will support the daily operational activities, ensure equipment uptime, and assist senior technicians with troubleshooting and maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor data centre infrastructure, including servers, network devices, racks, and environmental systems.
Perform routine hardware checks, equipment installations, cable management, and rack-and-stack activities.
Assist in troubleshooting hardware, network, and connectivity issues under the guidance of senior engineers.
Track and manage inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies.
Follow proper escalation procedures for incidents and system alerts.
Maintain documentation of configurations, incidents, and operational procedures.
Ensure compliance with security, safety, and access protocols.
Support scheduled maintenance, system testing, and upgrade activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
0–2 years of experience in IT, networking, hardware support, or data centre operations.
Basic knowledge of servers, switches, routers, and data centre hardware components.
Understanding of cabling standards (Ethernet, fiber), power distribution, and rack setup is a plus.
Ability to troubleshoot basic hardware or connectivity issues.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
Ability to lift/move equipment as required (up to 50 lbs).
Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or coursework in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or related field.
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or CCNA (nice to have).
Exposure to ticketing systems or monitoring tools.
