Junior Doctor (often referred to as a Junior Resident or JD following an MBBS degree and mandatory internship) is
a medical graduate undergoing postgraduate training or working in a hospital. They manage OPDs, assist senior physicians, and handle emergency care.
Key Qualifications & Roles
- Prerequisites: Must hold an MBBS degree, complete a rotating medical internship, and possess an active State Medical Council or National Medical Commission (NMC) registration.
- Academic vs. Non-Academic: Academic JRs are pursuing a post-graduate degree (MD/MS), while non-academic JRs work purely as service residents/duty doctors.
- Core Duties: Involves clerking patients, recording medical histories, managing drug charts, executing minor procedures, and writing discharge summaries.
