At Howmet Aerospace (Winsted, CT), we’re on a mission to build what’s next in aerospace. Join as a Junior CNC Manufacturing Technician and, over your first 90 days, progress from learner to certified contributor on critical machining processes.

Your 0–30 day ramp

  • Immerse in safety, Quality, and EH&S practices; learn 6S expectations.
  • Shadow operators on CNC process machines—rotary and surface grinding—observing set-ups and wheel changes.
  • Practice reading blueprints, drawings, specifications, and technical diagrams; review charts and tables tied to each job.
  • Begin logging calibration checks and daily walk-arounds; learn to update visual control boards and hour-by-hour charts.

Your 31–60 day milestones

  • Perform supervised set-ups and wheel changes within target times.
  • Run in-process inspections using adjustable measuring instruments and measurement gauges.
  • Capture utilization, schedule, and quality records accurately and on time.
  • Execute end-of-shift clean-up and sustain audit-ready housekeeping.

Your 61–90 day outcomes

  • Independently set up, operate, and maintain at least one CNC process machine to standard.
  • Consistently meet safety, productivity, and quality expectations while contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance, follow Employee Handbook policies, and achieve/maintain certified status.

What we offer

  • Minimum starting salary $21.00; higher pay based on skills
  • Shift premiums: +$2.00 (2nd shift) and +$3.00 (3rd shift)
  • Train on 1st shift for several months if needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Solid shop math (decimals, fractions); ability to use basic formulas, charts, and tables
  • Comfort reading blueprints, drawings, specifications, and technical diagrams
  • Experience with computer scanning devices; adept with adjustable precision measuring tools
  • Able to review/interpret reports, forms, and production records to make sound decisions
  • Plan and sequence set-ups, operations, and processes; follow instructions and standard methods
  • 1–2 years of machine operation experience preferred
