Summary

To provide advanced, accurate, and timely court compliance and collection services for Lubbock County. This position is responsible for maintaining financial records for the criminal courts regarding fines, court costs, and attorney fee payments.

Essential Duties

  • Enter, establish, and satisfy payment agreements in the computer program.
  • Perform general clerical duties including filing, printing correspondence, and answering telephone inquiries.
  • Crosstrain with office staff in other areas to ensure continuity of departmental operations.
  • Verify information provided on collection applications and conduct interviews with offenders.
  • Monitor cases for compliance with court orders and initiate corrective action on delinquent cases as needed.
  • Accurately assess and post payments to client accounts through the collections program.
  • Assist the public with retrieving information on fines and court costs.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries and requests for information.
  • Mail requested reports and documentation to outside agencies or departments.
  • Consult and confer with Judges and other court officials regarding case information.
  • Testify in court regarding delinquent cases, as needed.
  • Attend all meetings and training courses, as required.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • This position has no direct supervisory authority.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent required. Advanced oral and written communication skills. Must be able to motivate and relate to people easily. Ability to adapt to new procedures and interpret applicable laws and regulations. Valid TX driver's license required.

Supplemental Information

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to prioritize, organize, and evaluate assigned caseload. Strong interpersonal, organizational, de-escalation, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software programs including Microsoft Office, WordPerfect, and Excel. Ability to maintain records, read and understand instructions, analyze and interpret data, communicate effectively orally and in writing using proper grammar, punctuation, and English usage. Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws regarding court collections. Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Court services or criminal justice experience preferred. Collections experience preferred. Prior government or county experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work with adult criminal offenders who may be angry or dangerous. Frequent exposure to computer screens. Occasional irregular hours may be required. Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively with customers, clients, coworkers, and the public. Local travel to other county buildings required. Work in office, jail, and courtroom environments. May be exposed to contagious or communicable diseases through interaction with the public. Maintain physical condition necessary for walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time, with occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.
