Description

The purpose of this position is to maintain the records of the Court of Common Pleas & General Sessons.

Examples of Duties

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Clocks-in, verifies, scans and files official documentation into defendants case file.
  • Obtains and transfers inmate packets from Beaufort County's jail. Prepares, clocks and e-mails warrants to Intake. Scans, redacts and files records to correlating defendant files.
  • Assists, answer questions and interacts with fellow employees, judges, attorney general, attorneys, law enforcement, public defender, general public and others associated with cases.
  • Screens all communications and requests from individuals seeking the Judge, either in person, by telephone or through the mail, to ascertain the reason for the contact and determine if the matter is appropriate for the Judge's consideration.
  • Provides the public guidance on how to proceed or refer to the appropriate person(s) as it applies to the situation.
  • Performs clerical work as directed by the Judges or Court Administrator.
  • Provides front desk assistance with Notary Public registration, Public Defender applications, and defendant payments and provides information for inquiring public.
  • Prepares bail and discharge paperwork for Bondsperson for the release of inmates.
  • Receives bond payments and enters information into CMS.
  • Prepares and maintains trial motion and plea rosters.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires an Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • Over one month and up to and including three months of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
