Mission
Plan and construct layout of tools and dies from Engineering, Tool Design, and/or Methods documents
Review Methods documents to ensure producibility of tool or die and provide estimates of labor hours for construction as required
Determine and order the raw materials required to build tool or die
Assemble tools and dies using and interpreting a variety of precision measurement equipment to ensure compliance with Engineering specifications
Troubleshoot and coordinate with Engineering, Tool Design, Production, and/or Methods to resolve problems pertaining to the successful construction of a tool or die design
Profile
Typically 7 years conventional machining, sheet metal, fabrication, or related experience, which must include 5 years experience in tool and die construction
Ability to read and interpret Engineering, Methods, and Tool Design documents
Ability to use and interpret a variety of precision measurement instruments
Ability to set-up and operate various shop machines, for example mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, table routers, power hand tools, and heat treat oven
Mechanical skills
Basic knowledge of safety requirements for tool and die construction
