    Description

    As a JavaScript Developer Contractor, you will support the development and maintenance of web applications using JavaScript. Develop and maintain front-end and back-end components of web applications using JavaScript. Collaborate with designers and other developers to implement user interfaces and improve user experience. Conduct testing and debugging to ensure the functionality and performance of web applications, and participate in code reviews to provide constructive feedback. Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following best practices. Stay updated with the latest JavaScript frameworks and libraries to recommend and implement improvements.

    Role Description:

    Backend Node.js API Developer Specialty Referrals Engagement Context Supports the Primary Care Specialty Referrals workstream, building and maintaining backend services that power referral decisioning workflows, helping primary care providers select the most appropriate specialty for a patient's care needs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs supporting specialty referral decisioning workflows, including specialty recommendation logic, provider/specialist matching, and notifications Implement and maintain the business rules and decision logic that drive specialty recommendations based on patient and referral data
    • Design and optimize database schemas for referral, provider, and status data; write efficient queries and manage migrations as the data model evolves Integrate with upstream and downstream systems (EHR, scheduling, provider directory, or prior authorization services as applicable to the workstream).
    • Implement data validation, error handling, and audit logging appropriate for a healthcare production environment Partner with front-end, integration, and QA teams to deliver end-to-end features Support performance tuning, security hardening, and observability (logging, monitoring, alerting).
    • Participate in code reviews, CI/CD pipeline maintenance, and technical documentation Collaborate with the product/BA team to translate referral decisioning requirements into technical designs

    Required Skills:

    • 4+ years of professional experience with Node.js and Express.
    • Strong grasp of RESTful API design, versioning, and JSON schema validation.
    • Strong database skills, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization, with hands-on experience in PostgreSQL and tools such as PgAdmin, Prisma, and Liquibase for schema management and migrations.
    • Experience implementing business rules or decision-logic engines within backend services.
    • Experience with unit and integration testing (Jest, Mocha, or similar) Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, GitOps).
    • Experience with cloud-native development; GCP experience preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Healthcare payer or provider industry experience.
    • Familiarity with referral management, specialty recommendation, or prior authorization workflows.
    • Exposure to healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, or X12 275/278) is a plus.
    • Prior experience in a consulting or client-facing delivery environment
