    Sr. Java Software Engineer

    Summary

    Our client is seeking a Sr. Java Developer to join a backend team supporting a suite of complex, established billing and payment processing applications. This is a technical leadership role; the developer will serve as a point person alongside solution architects, provide the first draft of solutions to larger problems, and mentor more junior developers on the team.

    Responsibilities

    • Design, develop, and maintain backend Java applications and web services.
    • Work within a complex legacy codebase to troubleshoot non-obvious issues and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Partner with solution architects on larger technical problems and propose approaches.
    • Write and optimize SQL against a relational database.
    • Provide technical mentorship to less experienced developers.
    • Participate fully in Scrum ceremonies and collaborate daily with team members, QA, and the Scrum Master.

    Requirements

    • 6+ years of professional Java development experience (post-education).
    • Proficiency with Spring and Spring Boot.
    • Strong SQL and relational database experience.
    • Experience with Git-based source control and CI/CD workflows.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and lead technically without direct management responsibility.
    • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.

    Preferred

    • Experience supporting complex legacy or established systems.
    • Billing or payment processing domain experience.
    • Experience with a modern identity platform (Auth0, Okta, or similar).
    • Oracle and PL/SQL.
    • AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, and GitLab.

    This is a 12-month Contract opportunity with our Kansas City, MO client.
