    Schwab Technology Services (STS) enables the future of how clients manage their money by delivering innovative, scalable, and reliable technology solutions that support our commitment to democratizing investing and financial planning. As a Java Software Development Engineer supporting the CCAT organization, you will help build and evolve the Schwab Customer Identifier (SCID), the enterprise identity platform that powers a unified 360-degree view of clients across Schwab businesses.

    In this role, you will apply modern software engineering practices to design, develop, test, deploy, and support highly available applications that deliver measurable business and client impact. You will collaborate with engineers, architects, product partners, and business stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges, influence solution design decisions, and deliver scalable solutions that improve performance, reliability, and maintainability. Success in this role requires the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions, make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment, and continuously improve engineering practices through automation, cloud technologies, and continuous delivery.

    You will contribute to the development of distributed applications, APIs, event-driven solutions, and cloud-aligned services that support critical business capabilities across the firm.     What you have

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
    • 6+ years of experience in software engineering with Java, Spring Framework, and RESTful API development.
    • 2+ years of experience working with relational or distributed databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Yugabyte.
    • 2+ years of experience utilizing source control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery tools such as Git, Bitbucket, or Bamboo.
    • 2+ years of experience developing and deploying applications in cloud environments including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
    • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar technologies to improve software development efficiency while maintaining code quality and engineering standards.
    • Experience working in Agile environments using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
    • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
    • Experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting enterprise applications across the software development lifecycle.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 1+ year of experience developing event-driven architectures using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging technologies.
    • 1+ year of experience supporting real-time data processing or streaming applications.
    • Experience with batch processing, data pipelines, Spring Batch, or PySpark.
    • Proven ability to independently own and deliver features from design through production deployment.
    • Experience participating in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design sessions.
    • Strong focus on software quality, test automation, and production reliability.
    • Demonstrated curiosity, adaptability, and commitment to continuous learning and technology innovation.

    In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
