Java Developer

Overview

Client is seeking a Java Developer to design, build, enhance, and support secure, scalable enterprise applications within a financial services environment. This role focuses on backend development using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Oracle Database, and microservices architecture. The developer will contribute across the software development lifecycle and support critical business workflows from design through production.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Java applications and microservices using Spring Boot and related Spring frameworks.
• Build and enhance RESTful APIs supporting enterprise business processes and service-to-service integrations.
• Develop backend business logic, data access layers, and integration components.
• Work with Oracle SQL, database schemas, stored procedures, indexes, constraints, query optimization, and transaction handling.
• Write secure, maintainable, and testable code aligned with enterprise engineering standards.
• Participate in application design, API contract definition, code reviews, technical documentation, and implementation planning.
• Troubleshoot application issues across development, testing, and production environments.
• Perform root-cause analysis, defect resolution, and application performance tuning.
• Support application monitoring, logging, reliability, availability, and operational readiness.
• Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, architects, and developers.
• Participate in sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Support automated delivery, production deployments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Apply secure coding, data integrity, auditability, access-control, and change-management practices.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Technologies

• Hands-on backend application development experience using Java.
• Experience developing applications and microservices with Spring Boot and related Spring frameworks.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with microservices architecture and service-to-service integrations.
• Experience developing against Oracle Database using Oracle SQL.
• Knowledge of database schemas, stored procedures, indexes, constraints, transactions, and query optimization.
• Experience troubleshooting and supporting applications across development, testing, and production environments.
• Understanding of secure coding, application performance, monitoring, logging, and production support.
• Experience working across the full software development lifecycle.
• Ability to independently deliver well-defined application features.

Preferred Skills or Experience

• Angular or another modern frontend framework.
• Banking, lending, payments, risk, compliance, or financial services technology experience.
• Spring Security, OAuth, OIDC, JWT, API gateways, or enterprise authentication and authorization.
• Kubernetes, GCP, or another containerized or cloud-native platform.
• Kafka, IBM MQ, or another messaging or event-driven technology.
• Elastic, Grafana, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, or similar observability tools.
• DevOps practices, automated deployment pipelines, environment configuration, and release management.
• Performance tuning for Java services, REST APIs, and Oracle SQL.
• Experience creating API specifications, technical documentation, operational runbooks, or production-support knowledge bases.
• Experience working within regulated environments.
