POSITION: Itinerant Multi Categorical Special Education Teacher including Gifted Education

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid WV teaching Certificate endorsed for Learning Disabilities (LD), Mentally Impaired (Mild/Moderate), or Mental Retardation, and Behavior Disorders (BD) with Certification in Gifted Education. Candidates lacking certification in Gifted Education can be employed under an out-of-field authorization initially, but must make adequate progress annually toward full certification and will be assisted through priority tuition reimbursement.

JOB DESCRIPTION
CLASSROOM TEACHER / SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Principal(s)
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implements a program of study in accordance with the state and county's adopted Content Standards and Objectives as specified in the IEP.
Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning.
Utilizes instructional management system models that increase student learning and functioning.
Monitors student progress towards mastery of Content Standards, Objectives, and annual goals as specified in the IEP and the West Virginia Content Standards.
Demonstrates behavior that reflects established professional responsibilities as delineated in Tyler County Policy GC: Teacher Code of Conduct.
Bases instruction on adopted curricula for the school and modifies curriculum when necessary.
Demonstrates accurate and current knowledge in subject field.
Develops appropriate goals and objectives and utilizes appropriate instructional strategies.
Follows established school discipline procedures that include the West Virginia Student Code of Conduct and West Virginia Board of Education Policy 2419.
Establishes procedures and rules that enhance learning.
Encourages students' attendance.
Sets high positive expectations for student performance.
Treats students in a fair and equitable manner.
Organizes strategies for teaching to maximize the use of allocated instructional time to increase student learning.
Gathers, stores, and monitors data related to student learning and behavior for use in assessing progress toward achieving the instructional objectives and annual IEP goals as appropriate.
Communicates effectively with students, parents, educational personnel, and others.

Integrates the use of technology into learning objectives across the curriculum.
Assists with the toileting and other personal care needs of students as necessary.
Performs other reasonable duties assigned by the building principal and Director of Special Education.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated by the building Principal(s) in accordance with state Board Policy 5310: Administrative Procedures for Personnel Evaluation.
