The City of Laramie is accepting applications from qualified individuals for an IT Technician or Systems Administrator to perform activities to satisfy City Information Technology needs and objectives; to coordinate activities with other City departments; to support computer systems and provide assistance to the Information Technology Manager. This is a two-year position, initially funded for only two years, but it may be eligible for an extension if approved by the City Council.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform system administration tasks on a virtualized Microsoft Windows environment including administration of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Office 365, and Azure AD.
- Support, deploy, and troubleshoot various software applications.
- Help maintain a modern computer network including installation, integration, and cabling.
- Plan, organize, develop, and implement computer related projects and training programs with minimal supervision and direction.
- Locate, read, interpret and apply complex technical publications, manuals and other support documents.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including computer system users, backup personnel, software/hardware vendors, city officials and the general public.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES (Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.)
- A Bachelor's degree/equivalent with major course work in computer science, management Information Technology or related field.
- IT Technician - one or more years of experience, Systems Administrator - Five or more years of experience in development and administration of computer systems, servers, and networks.
- Experience related to network/computer operating systems/software.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to carry at least 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs.
- Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening and driver's license check.
