Contract to hire opportunity for an IT Technical Support Specialist experienced in user support/ticket management, Desktop/Windows/Linux support, Microsoft 365/Identity & Endpoint Support.

Seeking an IT Support Specialist who enjoys solving technical problems, helping users, and expanding their skills across desktop support, Windows, Linux, Microsoft 365, scripting, cybersecurity, and infrastructure operations.
This role provides hands-on support to employees while working closely with IT Engineers and the IT Engineering Manager. The Specialist will resolve issues directly when appropriate and escalate more complex infrastructure, security, or engineering issues with thorough troubleshooting and documentation.

Key Responsibilities
User & Desktop Support
- Provide day-to-day technical support for desktops, laptops, applications, accounts, peripherals, connectivity, and business systems.
- Manage support tickets in Lansweeper from intake through resolution, including troubleshooting, communication, documentation, escalation, and closure.
- Support employee onboarding and offboarding, including workstation setup, account changes, software deployment, equipment returns, and asset tracking.
- Install, configure, patch, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows workstations, applications, hardware, printers, encryption, and user profiles.
- Provide basic Linux support, including RHEL/Ubuntu troubleshooting, permissions, services, filesystems, software installation, patching, and command-line diagnostics.
Microsoft 365, Identity & Endpoint Management
- Support Microsoft 365 applications and services including Outlook, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, licensing, and authentication.
- Assist with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, MFA, Conditional Access, groups, and user-access management.
- Support Microsoft Intune enrollment, application deployment, compliance, Windows updates, endpoint configuration, and security policies.
Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Support
- Triage phishing reports, suspicious activity, MFA concerns, account-access issues, malware alerts, lost equipment, and other security-related requests.
- Assist with endpoint security, vulnerability remediation, patching, antivirus/XDR alerts, and secure configuration.
- Support security remediation using Microsoft Defender XDR, Intune, Tenable Security Center, and related tools.
- Assist IT Engineers with security controls and evidence collection supporting CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, ISO/IEC 27001, ITAR, and CUI requirements.
- Escalate complex infrastructure and security issues with clear documentation of findings and troubleshooting performed.
Scripting, Documentation & Improvement
- Use PowerShell and Bash for administration, troubleshooting, information gathering, and automation; Python is a plus.
- Maintain accurate ticket notes, troubleshooting procedures, knowledge-base articles, and technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities to automate, standardize, and improve recurring support processes.
- Participate in patching, upgrades, deployments, workstation maintenance, and occasional after-hours maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on IT support, desktop support, systems support, or comparable experience.
- Strong Windows desktop troubleshooting and endpoint administration skills.
- Practical Linux support experience and comfort working from the command line.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Active Directory and/or Entra ID, endpoint management, authentication, and user access.
- Practical PowerShell and Bash scripting experience; Python is a plus.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, Wi-Fi, patching, and common enterprise IT concepts.
- Strong customer service, communication, troubleshooting, documentation, and follow-through skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Intune, Defender, Entra ID, Azure, Lansweeper, Fortinet, Tenable Security Center, VMware, Hyper-V, or similar technologies.
- Experience in a regulated, security-sensitive, defense, or controlled environment.
- Familiarity with phishing response, security-alert triage, vulnerability remediation, and incident escalation.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in IT, cybersecurity, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Certifications
Relevant certifications are preferred but not required. Examples include:
- CompTIA: A+, Network+, Security+, Linux+, Server+
- Microsoft Fundamentals: AZ-900, SC-900, MS-900
- Microsoft Role-Based: MD-102, AZ-104
Equivalent hands-on technical experience will be considered in place of certifications.

The W2 pay range for this type of role is approximately $35.00-45.00 per billable hour. This range is an estimate and not a guarantee of compensation.
