ABSC is seeking an IT Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the Air Force National Capital Region (AFNCR) Information Technology Services (ITS2) program, delivering secure, resilient technology supporting Air Force operations across the National Capital Region, including the Pentagon, Joint Base Andrews, and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. Spanning cybersecurity, engineering, enterprise operations, infrastructure modernization, logistics, and 24/7 mission support, AFNCR ITS2 also supports the National Military Command Center (NMCC), Joint Staff, and other mission partners—giving technical professionals the opportunity to solve complex challenges while helping keep critical national-defense capabilities connected, protected, and operational.
As an IT Systems Engineer, you will design, implement, maintain, and modernize information technology systems supporting the AFDW mission. You will work across engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure, network, and operations teams to translate mission and technical requirements into secure, reliable solutions—from architecture and design through integration, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support.
The majority of work is conducted on-site at our client location in the National Capital Region – primarily Pentagon, Joint Base Andrews and/or Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), based on each assignment. We offer a flexible schedule and, occasionally, some tasks may be performed remotely with prior client approval.
Security clearance required for this role: An Active Secret security clearance is required.
Responsibilities:
The IT Systems Engineer will support activities including:
- Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot information technology systems and supporting infrastructure.
- Develop technical solutions that address customer and mission requirements across computing, network, platform, and enterprise environments.
- Design and maintain computing infrastructure necessary to support key mission and operational requirements.
- Establish and implement networking and system configurations consistent with cybersecurity and information assurance requirements.
- Troubleshoot network errors, system performance issues, integration challenges, and other complex technical problems.
- Support the design, integration, installation, testing, deployment, sustainment, and lifecycle management of new and existing IT systems and services.
- Develop engineering solutions incorporating applicable cybersecurity and security controls.
- Analyze technical requirements and alternatives and provide recommendations for system architecture, infrastructure, hardware, software, and technology solutions.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, mission partners, service providers, cybersecurity teams, network administrators, system administrators, data center personnel, and program offices.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams, network diagrams, engineering plans, configurations, implementation documentation, and other technical artifacts.
- Support Assessment and Authorization (A&A) activities by developing and maintaining required engineering and system documentation.
- Support configuration management activities and ensure systems, infrastructure, and associated configuration items are accurately documented and maintained.
- Evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies, including virtualization, cloud computing, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS), when appropriate to mission requirements.
- Support technology modernization, lifecycle management, system upgrades, hardware and software refresh, and change management activities.
- Apply DoD, Air Force, industry, and engineering standards and best practices throughout the system development and sustainment lifecycle.
- Assist with outage resolution and technical troubleshooting to maintain system availability, reliability, and mission readiness.
Requirements:
- Education/Years’ Experience/Certifications:
- Option 1 – Standard Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience
- Option 2 – Master's Degree Substitution
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Option 3 - Experience Substitution
- No degree required with a minimum of 10 years of intensive and progressive experience demonstrating the required technical proficiency for the position.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of enterprise IT systems, infrastructure, networking, and systems engineering principles.
- Ability to design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot complex IT environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and develop effective technical solutions.
- Ability to translate customer and mission requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Experience developing and maintaining technical architecture, system, configuration, and engineering documentation.
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, cybersecurity, network, infrastructure, operations, and program teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated DoD environment.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- On-call or after-hours support may be required based on mission needs.

Salary is commensurate with education and years’ experience. Salary range for this requisition is: $90k-$150k annual.
