    Position Overview

    Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) is seeking an experienced IT Systems Engineer 3 to provide strategic technical leadership supporting the Digital Plant / Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) program.

    This position will focus on migrating legacy machine network assets into a unified enterprise IIoT/Operational Technology (OT) environment, enabling secure OEM remote access, and supporting modernization of legacy industrial systems.

    The ideal candidate will have strong industrial systems engineering, systems architecture, cybersecurity, network infrastructure, and enterprise-level technical leadership experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the migration of machine network assets into the enterprise IIoT network.
    • Define migration plans, validation procedures, and cutover schedules.
    • Design and implement secure OEM remote-access provisioning and ongoing management.
    • Coordinate remote-access activities with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and vendor teams.
    • Analyze legacy monolithic systems and develop strategies for system decomposition and decoupling.
    • Ensure modernization strategies preserve operational continuity.
    • Align architecture decisions with IIoT security, infrastructure, and operational standards.
    • Ensure migration and remote-access activities comply with applicable cybersecurity and regulatory requirements.
    • Participate in long-range IIoT architecture planning and roadmap development.
    • Establish practical architecture standards and guardrails that promote consistency while supporting efficient delivery.
    • Provide strong technical support to the Level 5 Systems Architect.
    • Collaborate with enterprise stakeholders to ensure solutions align with NNS strategy.
    • Support enterprise-level initiatives, platform responsibilities, and product/solution planning.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant experience, or:

    • Master's degree with 3 years of relevant experience, or

    • Ph.D. with 0 years of experience.

    • 4 years of related exempt experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.

    • 8 years of non-related exempt experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.

    • Strong technical background in industrial systems engineering.

    • Experience with enterprise-level systems, platforms, or technology initiatives.

    • Experience with IIoT/OT environments, industrial networks, or digital plant technologies.

    • Strong understanding of systems integration and architecture.

    • Experience with cybersecurity and secure remote-access solutions.

    • Ability to develop migration strategies and technical implementation plans.

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

    Preferred / Special Qualifications

    • Experience with enterprise-level initiatives or platform responsibilities.
    • Experience with value stream mapping, Lean prioritization, or portfolio planning.
    • Experience defining and enforcing product workflows, technical standards, or governance practices.
    • Advanced SAFe certification or product management certification.
    • Experience with long-range product planning, solution development, and financial prioritization.
    • Experience working with legacy system modernization and application/system decoupling.
    • Experience collaborating with security teams, infrastructure teams, and OEM/vendor organizations.
