Job Description:

Program Manager

4/day week onsite in Chesapeake, VA

6-month contract, likely to go through next year

Seeking a seasoned Project Manager to lead a large, complex workforce management implementation within a retail environment. This person will come in at the very beginning of the initiative and will be responsible for building out the project plan, coordinating multiple vendors and internal teams, managing integrations, and driving the implementation through rollout.

The project will have broad impact across stores, merchandising, workforce operations, payroll, and other transactional systems, so strong stakeholder management and attention to detail will be critical.

What They Need

  • Strong Program/Project Manager with experience leading large, enterprise-level implementations.
  • Experience managing multiple external vendors as well as cross-functional internal resources.
  • Must be comfortable owning a large, highly detailed project plan with numerous dependencies and integrations.
  • Strong preference for candidates who have managed major projects within a large retail environment, particularly projects impacting stores or frontline workforces.
  • Experience overseeing a major system implementation from early planning through deployment/rollout.
  • Workforce Management system experience is highly preferred.
  • Legion experience would be a strong plus but does not appear to be an absolute requirement.
  • Experience working with integrations involving systems such as Workday, payroll platforms, Google Cloud, and other transactional systems would be beneficial.
  • Needs to understand how technology changes affect business operations, stores, merchandising, and employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the program while it is still in the early stages and build out/finalize the overall project plan.
  • Coordinate activities, timelines, dependencies, and deliverables across multiple vendors and internal teams.
  • Drive vendor communication and make sure external partners remain aligned to project milestones and expectations.
  • Manage stakeholder communication across both technical and business teams.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear updates that business stakeholders and executives can understand.
  • Proactively identify project risks, dependencies, and potential roadblocks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Maintain strong project governance, status reporting, documentation, and executive-level communication.
  • Oversee integrations between the workforce platform and systems including Workday, payroll, Google Cloud, and other transactional platforms.
  • Help manage the implementation and eventual rollout across the retail organization.

Executive Visibility

This role will have significant executive exposure and will be reporting into the CIO for this project. They need someone extremely sharp, organized, detail-oriented, and proactive. The PM should always know where the project stands, what the major risks are, and what the mitigation plan is.

Project Timeline

  • The initiative is currently in the very early stages, so the PM will help shape the project structure and plan rather than simply inherit an established program.
  • The integration/implementation work is expected to last at least six months, likely last into later next year
  • Good chance of longevity and conversion due to high visibility project
