    Description

    Sparrow Company is searching for an experienced and solution-oriented Network Engineer to join an established organization in El Paso, TX. This position is responsible for network design, engineering, administration, troubleshooting, security, and operational support. The Network Engineer will take a hands-on approach to maintaining reliable, secure, scalable, and well-documented network infrastructure, with a primary focus on Cisco technologies and enterprise networking environments.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    • Design, configure, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including routing, switching, firewalls, and VPNs
    • Support network architecture, configuration standards, and scalable infrastructure planning
    • Maintain network reliability, security, and availability across operational environments
    • Support Cisco-based technologies and related enterprise networking platforms
    • Administer Windows Server and Linux Ubuntu systems across on-premises and cloud environments
    • Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, group policies, and identity integrations with network security
    • Oversee patching, upgrades, and configuration management for infrastructure servers
    • Support identity, access, and infrastructure security practices in coordination with IT stakeholders
    • Troubleshoot advanced connectivity issues using packet captures, flow analysis, and diagnostic tools
    • Troubleshoot complex networking issues in a 24/7 operational environment
    • Utilize monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds or similar tools for proactive issue resolution and trend analysis
    • Analyze network performance, connectivity, and security events to identify root causes and prevent recurrence
    • Configure, support, and maintain firewalls, VPNs, and secure network access solutions
    • Support IPSec, SSL VPN, and site-to-site tunnel environments
    • Participate in centralized policy control and firewall management using platforms such as Cisco Firepower, Palo Alto, or equivalent technologies
    • Apply network security best practices to protect infrastructure and business operations
    • Maintain documentation for network architecture, configurations, and change management
    • Participate in formal change control processes and infrastructure planning
    • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing across systems and networks
    • Support patching, upgrades, and configuration standards that improve reliability and operational consistency
    • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Support continuous improvement through documentation, automation, and proactive monitoring
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum five (5) years of enterprise network engineering experience in medium-to-large environments
    • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, or equivalent routing and switching hardware
    • Strong knowledge of VLANs, STP, trunking, fabric interconnects, BGP, OSPF, IPSec, SSL VPN, and site-to-site tunnels
    • Practical knowledge of AWS VPC design, Direct Connect, VPNs, routing, and security groups
    • Familiarity with VMware networking, load balancing, and integration with compute and storage platforms
    • Understanding of transceivers, fiber optics, structured cabling, and physical data center networking
    • Familiarity with Cisco and Meraki technologies, DNS, DHCP, IP address management, and network security
    • Experience administering Windows Server and Linux Ubuntu environments preferred
    • Experience with Active Directory, group policies, identity services, and infrastructure security
    • Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as SolarWinds or similar platforms
    • Experience participating in formal change control and infrastructure support processes preferred
    • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Network+, or Security+ preferred
    • Scripting and automation experience with PowerShell or Python is a plus
    • Proficiency with network design and documentation tools such as Microsoft Visio
    • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues with urgency, accuracy, and sound judgment
    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to work effectively in a 24/7 operational environment and respond to network issues as needed
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate technical documentation
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
