    Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

    The School of Medicine Information Technology (IT) provides centralized computer services and information systems resources for the School of Medicine Community, from medical students to faculty to administrative staff. This includes approximately 9,500 employees and 1,000 students. School of Medicine IT provides secure, reliable and scalable IT services to support the academic, research and administrative missions of the academic medical center while collaborating with UNC and UNC Health. The Infrastructure and Operations team provides compute and storage services to the School of Medicine in support of its various missions.

    Position Summary

    This position reports to the Director of Infrastructure and Operations and is responsible for managing the Infrastructure Administration team which is responsible for managing Storage, Virtualization, and Cloud Systems for the School of Medicine IT Office. The IT Manager for Infrastructure Administration ensures compliance with applicable IT Security Policies; Service Level Agreements; health monitoring for managed systems, resource consumption, and other important Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); and ensures managed systems software is installed, configured, and maintained in accordance with best practices. The incumbent will manage a team of six (6) staff members who are responsible for managing VMware virtualization farm (software and hardware); NetApp SAN/NAS storage; and fiber channel switch fabric. The IT Manager will consult and coordinate with peers within the School of Medicine IT organization to deliver high-quality IT solutions in a timely and efficient manner.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Master's and 1-2 years' experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

    Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    Given the nature of the position, incumbents must have demonstrated experience in a supervisory role. Incumbents must be proficient with Windows Server and Linux Server Operating Systems and management tools such as Ansible, SCCM, Powershell, and Red Hat Satellite server.

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

    Experience with managing a team of Systems Administrators supporting Linux and Windows is a plus. Preferably, incumbents should be able to work in a team/collaborative environment with a broad range of constituents and have excellent written/oral communication skills.
