Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under general supervision, designing, and implementing mid-range services to keep University core technical services running at specified service levels to enable reliable and robust services. Design, develop, implement and manage solutions to provide connectivity to the university network for members of the university community. Participate in the development, implementation, and management of the university networks routing and switching infrastructure. Participate in the development and implementation of solutions to provide access to the university network. Focus is on services of extremely high risk, complexity, availability, and visibility that serve the needs of the entire university.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.Voice and Telephony Systems: Design, develop, implement, and manage network-based voice, mobile communication, and IP telephony systems for the university community, including Unified Messaging, Webex, VoIP solutions, and secure remote access. (40%)
2.Network Infrastructure and Connectivity: Develop, implement, operate, and monitor network connectivity, LAN/WAN routing and switching, performance metrics, capacity planning, and network security. Proactively address performance, troubleshoot issues, and maintain policies and procedures for both routine and emergency operations. (30%)
3.Project Management and Collaboration: Participate in and lead project teams, assign tasks and priorities to staff and student employees, collaborate with the Project Management Office to establish schedules and budgets, and work with vendors and consultants to meet network infrastructure requirements. (15%)
4.Documentation and Support: Field after-hours emergencies, develop and maintain thorough system documentation, and interact with customer service and network users for support and problem resolution. (14%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
CONTACTS
Department: Contact with all levels in UTech to provide assistance and network operation.
University: Interact with the university customer service organization and network users as necessary for support and problem resolution.
External: Contact with vendors to facilitate solutions to the connectivity requirements of the university network.
Students: Contact with student employees working inside UTech. Minimal contact with the general student population.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensing and Experience: 3 years experience; Associates degree or relevant certification. Bachelors degree preferred- OR- 7 years of experience. Cisco CCNA certification strongly preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS
WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical office environment. The position will require access to residence halls for trouble shooting network infrastructure and access to the data centers. The position may need to respond to after-hours emergencies.
