Position Overview:

ALTESS, a premier managed service provider (MSP) for the U.S. Army, delivers secure, scalable, and resilient hosting services-spanning traditional virtual machines, containerized workloads, and leading commercial cloud environments. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Data Center Support Technician to join our team. This role is pivotal in providing support to the data center operations with a primary focus on data center capacity management, Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platform administration, IT hardware lifecycle management, and support of critical facilities infrastructure. This position serves as a technical specialist across both White Space (IT server rooms, rack elevations, cabling infrastructure) and Gray Space (power distribution, HVAC, emergency generators, switchgear, and environmental controls).

Position Duties:

  • DCIM & Capacity Administration: Administer and maintain the Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platform; track real-time power, space, and cooling capacity; map rack elevations and identify optimal rack placement for incoming tenant hardware.
  • Cabling & Hardware Installation: Install, terminate, label, test, and certify copper (Cat6/6A) and fiber optic (single-mode/multi-mode) cabling to BICSI/TIA standards; assemble and mount server, storage, and network hardware into 19-inch racks.
  • Lifecycle & Decommissioning Workflows: Execute hardware deployment and decommissioning workflows, including safe un-racking, cable abatement, and strict chain-of-custody sanitization per security guidelines.
  • Infrastructure & SCADA Monitoring: Configure intelligent rack PDUs (IP assignment, threshold alerting); monitor environmental and facility status across SCADA/BAS systems (utilizing BACnet, Modbus, SNMP); identify infrastructure anomalies and escalate appropriately.
  • Contractor & Maintenance Oversight: Escort and oversee third-party contractors performing preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical/electrical systems; verify work aligns with Statements of Work (SOW) and safety standards.
  • ITSM & Process Execution: Process incidents, change orders, and service requests via ServiceNow; draft and execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Logistics & Emergency Support: Forecast cabling/rack materials, request quotes, and submit purchase requests (BOMs/PORs); provide 24/7/365 emergency call-in support for facility and hardware alerts.

Required Skills:

  • ITSM / Ticketing Experience: Practical experience operating within an IT Service Management (ITSM) platform (such as ServiceNow or Remedy) to manage service requests, incidents, work orders, and change tasks.
  • Networking Fundamentals: Foundational knowledge of IT networking concepts (including IP addressing, subnets, basic routing/switching, patch panels, and connectivity troubleshooting).
  • Mechanical & Hardware Aptitude: Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely use hand tools to rack/stack IT equipment, mount hardware rail kits, and assemble physical components.

Desired Skills:

  • Structured Cabling Experience: Practical experience deploying, terminating, patching, and testing structured copper (Cat6/Cat6A) and fiber optic (single-mode/multi-mode) network cabling.
  • Schneider Electric Ecosystem Exposure: Prior experience with or exposure to Schneider Electric DCIM tools (such as EcoStruxure, Data Center Expert, or IT Advisor) and industrial monitoring protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP).
  • Facilities & MEP Familiarity: Basic conceptual knowledge of data center power and cooling systems, including UPS hardware, emergency generators, power distribution units (PDUs), and CRAC/CRAH systems.
  • Procurement & Inventory Support: Experience tracking consumables (patch cords, cage nuts, bulk cable), requesting vendor quotes, and compiling Bills of Materials (BOM) or Purchase Order Requests (POR).
  • Self-Motivated Learner: A strong willingness and aptitude to learn new technologies across both IT systems administration and physical facility infrastructure under the mentorship of senior engineers.
