Develop solutions for non‑standard problems/issues. Make recommendations for ways to improve workflow. Make recommendations to service owners on how to migrate services to the cloud, implement cloud tools and re-architect applications to be cloud native. In a team lead capacity, the incumbent works with other networking and security leads at K‑State and also vendor consultants for application architecture in the cloud. Additional Examples Include: AWS tagging and naming design, Role in advising DNS Architecture, Identity Management Task force to re-architect our IDM lifecycle infrastructure. Architect SMTP and mass mail infrastructure Webmethods architecture for iPAAS (SoftwareAG cloud) and on-Prem.

About This Role

The IT Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the cloud and on-premises IT infrastructure for a large university, with a primary focus on AWS technologies. This role involves developing strategic roadmaps, ensuring secure and scalable architectures, and implementing microsegmentation strategies with Guardicore. The IT Architect collaborates with IT leadership, security teams, and application development groups to ensure the university's IT infrastructure aligns with organizational goals and industry best practices.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and nine years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in IT architecture, cloud computing, or enterprise infrastructure.
  • Strong expertise in AWS services, architectures, and cloud security best practices.
  • Experience with Guardicore or similar microsegmentation tools.
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Terraform).
  • Strong knowledge of networking, security, and identity managements.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or similar certification.
  • Experience in a higher education IT environment.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS ECS/EKS).
  • Familiarity with VMware, Active Directory, and enterprise networking.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
