Scope of the Project

As an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Subject Matter Expert, you will support the Office of Technology & Information Services (OTIS) and the State's AI Center of Excellence (CoE) by providing technical leadership in the evaluation, design, and responsible implementation of AI solutions across state agencies.

This role focuses on:

  • Supporting statewide AI strategy and governance initiatives.
  • Evaluating AI use cases, vendors, tools, risks, and opportunities.
  • Designing secure, scalable, and reusable AI architectures.
  • Promoting responsible AI adoption aligned with governance, security, privacy, and compliance standards.
  • Assisting state agencies in AI feasibility assessments, prototyping, and implementation.
  • Helping establish OTIS as a leader in AI innovation and best practices.

Daily Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of enterprise AI strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Participate in AI use case and vendor evaluations to ensure compliance with governance, security, privacy, and operational standards.
  • Assist in defining and promoting standardized AI processes and best practices across state agencies.
  • Contribute technical expertise to the State's AI Center of Excellence (CoE) by:
    • Designing secure AI architectures.
    • Developing reusable AI technical patterns.
    • Supporting AI use case development.
    • Building proof of concepts (POCs) and prototypes.
    • Conducting feasibility assessments.
    • Supporting responsible AI implementation.
  • Research emerging AI technologies and industry trends.
  • Maintain expertise in Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI technologies to support innovation across the organization.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience:
    • Establishing Proof of Concept (POC) success criteria.
    • Evaluating AI solutions against defined success metrics.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with:
    • ChatGPT
    • Microsoft Copilot
    • Other Generative AI platforms
  • Minimum 2 years of experience:
    • Designing AI Agents.
    • Implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience:
    • Using AI-assisted coding tools for development, testing, debugging, and documentation.
    • Defining AI success criteria, KPIs, and production monitoring metrics.
    • Building dashboards and reports for:
      • AI adoption
      • Performance
      • Cost optimization
      • Risk monitoring
      • Operational outcomes
    • Integrating AI capabilities with both Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with multiple programming languages and software development principles.
  • Understanding of:
    • Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs)
    • Transformer architectures
    • Natural Language Processing (NLP)
    • Image Classification
    • Time-Series Data Analysis
  • Experience with data engineering techniques including:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in:
