Description

The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.

Essential Job Functions:

• Conducts routine inspections of irrigation and sprinkler systems to detect problems and maintain irrigation system.
• Learns to install sprinkler systems.
• Operates front-end loader, backhoe, power and hand tools.
• Maintains daily work orders upon completion of work projects.
• Organizes work orders, equipment and supplies necessary to complete work assignments.
• Learns to oversee installations performed by contractors.
• Notifies supervisor of inventory, parts, supplies, materials and equipment needs to complete work orders.
• Learns to read and review plan designs and specifications.
• Learns to conduct audits of water usage to monitor compliance with City and State water conservation and irrigation regulations and ordinances.

Other Important Duties:

• Travels to work sites, meetings, conferences and training.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of hydraulics concepts and irrigation techniques and designs.
• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
• Skill in the use of power and hand tools.
• Skill in following oral and written directions.
• Skill in completing work assignments.
• Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.

Required

1 year: Candidates must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. and one year of experience in irrigation system installation or repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require obtaining a Texas Irrigation License within one year of employment. Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening and/or post-offer physical exam and must possess a State of Texas Class C driver's license.
